MONDAY CATCH UP: Editing DJ GANAS photos, Shooting the Green

Over the weekend I made progress on two exciting projects.

First, I continued to polish up the color-drenched photos from the DJ GANAS performance at Museo Alameda. I'm very happy with the results so far, and was glad to hear that programming coordinator Mia Lopez is, too. The photos should start popping up soon, and I'm still waiting to get the okay to post some here.

And on Sunday I did my first photo shoot with electronica duo The Green. They are one of those bands generating a buzz; I've been hearing about them since my arrival into town. And according to them, Sunday's shoot was their first in San Antonio. We shot at El Tropicano and the Havana Riverwalk Inn, and results are promising.

CONTACT SHEET: Photo Shoot with Automatic Panic & DJ Cat NYC, Part 1

This is new for me, so please forgive the rough quality. But this contact sheet is something I feel comfortable posting, since the responses so far have been good.

AP in particular has given me some really encouraging feedback about these shots, which in particular really communicate his vibe or persona. At least, from my perspective. Cat's a little more subdued here (her clothes, anyway... she's always bursting with energy), but I'm editing shots of her now that are more vibrant.

I've gotta point out that these shots were taken at the Bonham Exchange, whose team was cooperative and accommodating. Personally, I'd love to do more work there: this time around unfortunate time constraints kept us from taking full advantage of its diverse atmosphere.

BIRTHDAY WISHES: Thanks Everybody!

Thanks everybody for the birthday wishes! So far so good, but the weekend's started so now I really get some time to relax and have a little fun.

And thanks for keeping up with the site! The main site is officially a year old now, and still going strong. It's been a great outlet for me, an avenue for some self-expression both professionally and personally... I'm grateful you're finding it enjoyable to spend time here looking and reading.

Look for some planning to come to fruition soon. There were no lazy days of summer around here, and I'm excited to let you guys in on what we've been doing!

So thanks again, looking forward to seeing some of you soon! Enjoy your weekend.

WIP CREME at Jump-Start May 2010

From Jump-Start.org: WIP Crème will feature 6-8 artists performing short works that range from theatre to contemporary to hip-hop, amongst other genres. It showcases outstanding artists from the past season of W-I-P and is a pure celebration! W-I-P (Works-In-Progress/Wednesdays-In-Performance) is a collaboration between Jump-Start Performance Co. and San Antonio Dance Umbrella. It is a monthly lab space for new, in-progress dance and other movement-based performance works accompanied by a facilitated post-performance discussion. W-I-P is known for its eclecticism: modern dancers, belly dancers and performance artists have performed in the same evening and been inspired by each other, as well as expanding the audience’s perception of performance. For W-I-P Crème, we have selected some of our favourites from the past. The line-up will include Push Pens, Shimarella, Doyle Avant, PACDance, Northwest Vista College Dance Ensemble, Seme Jatib, Alysya Perez.

Swagg Presents Perez Hilton's One Night in Austin

It all started with finding out on Friday that we got into Perez's party at SXSW. Complete shock but so excited! It was like winning Willy Wonka's Golden Ticket. And by the time we received our magical wristband to walk through the doors at the Whitley, we had waited hours outside in anticipation of what was rumored to be The Place, The Party, The Event. And what we found? One word: "epic." After all, we were THIS CLOSE to Snoop Dogg, Courtney Love and Hole, Macy Gray as they performed one hit after another. And new acts like Marina and the Diamonds, and Alphabeat whetted our appetite, making us want to watch their ascendence in the near future. These are my shots from the night. Thanks Perez!
