BIRTHDAY WISHES: Thanks Everybody!

Thanks everybody for the birthday wishes! So far so good, but the weekend's started so now I really get some time to relax and have a little fun.

And thanks for keeping up with the site! The main site is officially a year old now, and still going strong. It's been a great outlet for me, an avenue for some self-expression both professionally and personally... I'm grateful you're finding it enjoyable to spend time here looking and reading.

Look for some planning to come to fruition soon. There were no lazy days of summer around here, and I'm excited to let you guys in on what we've been doing!

So thanks again, looking forward to seeing some of you soon! Enjoy your weekend.

LAUNCHING THE NEXT PHASE: Making Room for New Projects

No doubt about it, there's a lot of excitement on the horizon around here. With both Project Art Show Space and Troy Wise Photography. And to prepare for some of our upcoming projects, I will be restructuring and rearranging some of the older content to make room for the new.

So please excuse the mess. It's just temporary. Thanks!

Rob Brezsny's Astrology Newsletter: Identifying that Dream

Sounds like a plan:

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): "I have dreamed in my life dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and changed my ideas," wrote Emily Bronte in *Wuthering Heights.* "They have gone through and through me, like wine through water, and altered the color of my mind." One of your main assignments in the coming week, Virgo, is to identify a dream that can work that kind of magic on you. If there is no such dream currently seeded in your imagination, find a new one to plant there.

CHANGES TO THIS SITE: Handling Text & Images

Taking a break from the normal business of images and art, I wanted say something really quick about this site.

I hope the fun I get from posting daily updates is apparent: putting up images, spreading news, and typing out mini descriptions of what goes on around here is a blast. And the feedback I get makes the effort all the more rewarding.

However, I'm wanting to set up a new way of dealing it all.

I've started posting so many images that they could use a daily journal all to themselves. In fact, each project could use its own journal-type section, making them all easier to understand in terms of style and intent.

Normally I'd make the site inaccessible through password protection while working on the changes, but these changes will be a work in progress. They aren't going to happen overnight. So keep an eye out, because as I've said before, it's all still unfolding. It's a process...

SUNDAY: Studio Day

When Frank and I were living and working out of the Loft, there was a real need to take one day and devote it to my own artistic work. The overwhelming nature of the Loft Project required taking a weekly breather. Conveniently, especially after the explosion of energy during First Fridays, Sunday became Studio Day.

The nature of my work week has changed since leaving the Loft, but I still designate Sunday as Studio Day. I take the opportunity to focus my creativity in a strictly personal direction. Varied sources of inspiration come together, my imagination ignites, and my energy gets poured into a project that will hopefully stand on its own as a counterpoint to all my collaborative work. This system of balance ends up benefiting everything I produce.

Several weeks ago I was inspired to start doing more illustration, really making a return to the only type of work I did when first arriving in San Antonio. The photography has really taken off, of course, but I've been wanting to start again on projects similar to Rebel! Rebel! and Revolution Avenue. It's a side to my work that can't really stay ignored for too long.

Like most of what's going on right now, nothing's ready to be shown. (Keeping this blog has taught me not to say too much prematurely.) But like with most of everything going on right now, the work is in a promising early stage. I'm being overly protective at the moment, but that tendency will lessen in future weeks, I'm sure.

So, come back soon. The story, and the images, will continue to unfold.

ART OF FASHION 2008: Update

Just a quick note on how Art of Fashion 2008 is coming along. Frank and I have been meeting with Angelina Mata and Jhosiah weekly to make sure things like press releases and media kits get covered. Those two are a breath of fresh air: committed, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic. (This weekend Jhosiah got his hands on some great music that he's promised to give me a copy of. Thanks, Jhosiah!)

Today we all met up with Juan to do a walk through at the Blue Star Contemporary Art Center, creating a flow & layout for the runway and audience, and figuring out where the deejay will be.

Being back at Blue Star for the afternoon was nice. We talked briefly with an ever busy Leanne about possible spaces where models can get ready the night of the show. Even better was getting a sneak peek at the art to be featured for Red Dot 2008. Some of the work looks familiar, and looks to be a strong show. I wish we were going. Maybe next year.

For Art of Fashion 2008, so far so good! More updates to come...

First Thursday August 2008

First Thursdays are an opportunity to see the art in San Antonio's Southtown before the big First Friday art walk. I like this night because it's easier to focus on the art and talk to the people responsible for the showing the work.
