At a time when fewer are willing or able to afford the luxury of high fashion, the industry has an uphill battle. But succeeding in fashion has never been easy, and the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund gives a helping hand to talented fledgling designers. 

The big winner on Monday night was Alexander Wang. John Galliano, Vera Wang, Diane von Furstenberg, and Michelle Obama's election night choice Narciso Rodriguez, were among those in attendance.

FAT PUNK STUDIO: Bringing Their Design Aesthetic to Skateboards, Clothes and More

One look at some of Fat Punk Studio's recent skateboards and you know the work speaks for itself. But they've also designed for motorcycle helmets, kickboxing apparel and shoes. Looks like Fat Punk Studio will be unavoidable in '09, as more of the merchandise hits the streets. Nice.

FIRST THURSDAY IN SAN ANTONIO: A Night for Art

On First Thursdays, when possible, Frank and I like to get out to see what San Antonio's galleries and art spaces are showing. Tonight we'll be checking out Stella Haus and other spaces at Blue Star, then heading out to other parts of the city. Given its contrast with the "art block party" nature of First Friday, First Thursday means smaller crowds who have a greater chance of actually engaging with the artists and the work.

The transformation has been remarkable, wouldn't you say? $50,000 at Saks + $75,000 at Neiman's can work wonders. Yes, Palin clearly needed some more appropriate VP-candidate clothing considering she let herself be seen in that pink thing in the pic below. But did her daughter really need the Vuitton?

(And doesn't Piper know that it's Starbucks she's supposed to be carrying? McDonald's + Vuitton = Ghetto Unfabulous.)
